Trojans Rock American Idol

As I fast-forwarded through the last episode of American Idol hoping to get to the pay-off portion of the show, I immediately hit the play button when I thought I saw “The Spirit of Troy,” the University of Southern California marching band.

As the playback resumed normal speed I was happy to see that it was not only the band, but also the USC “Song Girls” (that would be cheerleaders at ordinary schools) joining the American Idol festivities. They were there to accompany Reynaldo Lapuz as he reprised “I Am Your Brother,”one of the most painful auditions in American Idol history.

What a great reminder that football season will be here before you know it!

Fight On!

(Is it just me, or did Randy Jackson’s outfit look like a bit like something Captain Kangaroo would wear?)

Preseason Polls

It’s hard to know what to think about the preseason polls in college football and basketball. For several weeks I have been enjoying the preseason number one ranking for the University of Memphis Tigers (Go, Tigers, Go!). Yesterday, the University of Southern California Trojans were ranked number one in the first preseason football poll (Fight On!).

On the one hand it’s cool to have my favorite basketball team and my favorite football team ranked number one. On the other hand, it’s pretty tough to consider the only way they have to go is down.

Will they maintain their rankings and finish number one? I can only hope so! But for now, I am going to enjoy every minute of the preseason!
