I was reading The (Online) Book of Common Prayer recently and was touched by this prayer for our enemies.
O God, the Father of all, whose Son commanded us to love
our enemies: Lead them and us from prejudice to truth:
deliver them and us from hatred, cruelty, and revenge; and in
your good time enable us all to stand reconciled before you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jesus said love your enemies. We all know that’s easier said than done, right?
How in the world do you even begin the process of loving your enemies? The following quote offers a pretty good starting point.
“It is hard to make your adversaries real people unless you recognize yourself in them—in which case, if you don’t watch out, they cease to be adversaries.”
From: The Habit of Being: Letters of Flannery O’Connor
May God help me love people. All people. Even my enemies.
